Selby High School

Charity Fundraising

All the students, staff and governors at Selby High School are proud of the sustained commitment that has been made to supporting over fifty charities at international, national and local level.  Since 2004 the school has raised a total £66,013.71 for various charities, many of which have been selected by students or members of staff who have particular interests in a given charity, popular with staff has been the ‘Leeds Children’s Hospital Appeal’.  Some of the biggest benefactors have been the national annually reoccurring events for charities such as ‘Children in Need’, ‘Sports Relief’ and ‘Readathon’.  However, charitable involvement also contributes to the curriculum, with charities such as ‘Water Aid’ playing a central role in raising awareness in lessons in Geography, ‘Help for Heroes’ in the music department and ‘Friends of Maher’ in RE.

Many of the charities have also been supported by individual Houses, with commitment to raising awareness and donations in each of the houses.

  • Selby Hands of Hope – Garrett
  • Candlelighters & St.Leonards Hospice - Hockney
  • The Leeds Children’s Hospital – Mason
  • The British Heart Foundation – Palin

The school reward system ‘VIVO’ also allowed students to make further contributions and it was fantastic to see so many students donating their reward points to charities of their choice at the end of term.  The school is also proud of the contribution it has made to the local charity ‘Selby Hands of Hope’, a charity we all recognise as playing a crucial part in supporting local people and organisations.
