Selby High School

Youth Speaks Competition

The annual ‘Youth Speaks’ public speaking competition took place on Tuesday 28th February, and for the fourth year, Selby High School entered two teams.

Our junior team, all from year 7, were Joe Hosie, Ruby Mannion and Thomas Noott, with year 11 students, Lorna Brookes, Beth Parker and Dottie Robinson making up the senior team.

Sadly neither team placed, but they both made exceptional efforts, especially our junior team, none of whom had done anything like this before.

The students spent seven weeks preparing their speeches and rehearsing. On the night itself, they were all literally shaking with nerves, but they didn’t let that stop them. Every student made an absolutely superlative job of representing Selby High School and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.
